Loft Conversions
project 8
this is one of Rendells Loft conversions In yeovil latest loft conversion, At tarret road Yeovil Somerset, just off west coaker road. We are trying to take photos on a daily basis to give a description of all the works that are happening as this loft conversion progresses. as you will see this loft project is being constructed on a detatched bungalow. There will be more pictures added as the work progresses. In this first set of pictures of this new loft conversion you can see that we have installed a new floor. which consists of 200mm by 50mm floor joisting with 22mm flooring and 200mm of rock wall insalation for excellence sound proof quality. next we had to install a ridge beam in to the loft which has been produced by 3 sections of 152mm by 152mm steel eye beam. This has been supported on the padstone at each gable end of the loft. This will support the entire new roofed section. next we will have to cut the whole back elevation of the roof including all tiles rafters felt and baton to start the insalation of the 10m long dormer loft conversion. All our timber work is built with the best grade of treated timber as you can see the front elevation of the loft is supported by the new steel. The main loft frame is made up of 100mm by 50 mm wooden stud work with 18m ply fixed to it to make all areas structural and riged. The new roof timbers are 150mm by 50mm joists with a 75mm to 0 furing strip connected to the top this to create the slope of a flat roof. the top will then be finished off with 18m ply as you will be able to see. There will be a new fibre glass roof which will bond to the new 18m ply this will consist of 3 layers of top quality fibre glass resin. the front of the loft conversion and the cheeks of the loft conversion will have the first layer of waterproofing which is made up of a breathable waterproof membrane. this area will then be totaly battoned out with 35mm by 25mm batons. New hangingn tyles added to suit the original roof of the property. the next step is to install all the windows and doors plus fascia soffit and guttering to the loft conversion. There is a vented soffit and an over fascia fenting and a complete breathable membrane to tottaly iradicate any condensation concers, also to keep all new and excisting timber work in perfect oprder in this loft conversion for many years to come. There is also new led flashings under all windows doors and edges of the dormered loft conversion. this completes the back elevation of the property and build. Next you will see that we have fitted 3 new velux windows on the front elevation of the loft conversion as you can also see the customer has asked for the whole front roof to be totaly stripped and replaced with new felt and baton and new tiles to bring this lovely detatched bungalow and loft conversion up to the ltest building controll regulations. as you can see from the picture there was a window on the end of the gable of the property, The customer and myself thought it would be nice to have one at the opposite end of the property on the other gable this would over look fields and woodlands and create a lovely view. we decided to cut out the gable and install the new window. The customer has had problems on the side wall of the gable with damp getting in we have decided to repoint this whole elevation and treat it with a water stabalising solution to keep the bad weather at bay for years to come.
